Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy 2004
Sean's favorite comedy of the century and Adam McKay's directorial debut, co-written with and starring Will Ferrell off the back of their SNL run. Sean had blocked three hours to rewatch a movie he remembered as bloated Apatow-era improv and found a 90-minute machine instead. The hosts argue it earns the slot because the men are at once the subject and the butt of the sexism joke, a hard trick to pull off, and because Christina Applegate's Veronica Corningstone gives it a real female lead. Ferrell as the full-of-it man-baby, the Baxter/Jack Black burrito hinge, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd's Brian Fantana, Fred Willard and a young Kathryn Hahn round out the case. It beat Superbad, which led at the start.
