Cats 2019
Tom Hooper's $95M sung-through adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, drawn from T.S. Eliot's 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.' Sean found it boring. Amanda found it disturbing. Both got stuck on the botched scale (baby-sized cats), the CGI fur, the plotlessness, and the odd sexual charge. The cast: Francesca Hayward (Victoria), Judi Dench (Old Deuteronomy), Jennifer Hudson (Grizabella, who belts 'Memories'), Idris Elba (Macavity), Taylor Swift (Bombalurina, and co-writer of the new song 'Beautiful Ghosts'), James Corden (Bustopher Jones), Ian McKellen (Gus the Theatre Cat), Rebel Wilson (Jennyanydots), Jason Derulo (Rum Tum Tugger, the one bit they liked), and Ray Winstone (Growltiger).
