Backrooms 2026
Kane Parsons's debut feature, adapted from his 'Backrooms' YouTube series (co-written by Will Sudek; James Wan, Osgood Perkins, and Shawn Levy among the producers). A therapist, Renate Reinsve, enters another dimension to find a lost patient, Chiwetel Ejiofor; Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell round out the cast. The trio split on it: Chris found the liminal-horror tracking shots hypnotic and wanted nine more hours, Amanda admired the craft but couldn't get her arms around the conventional movie parts, and all three agreed the ordinary narrative scaffolding (the therapist framing, the async-research subplot with Duplass) is the weakest thing in it. Set in 1990; the portal traces to the 1989 San Francisco earthquake. They expect a big opening, and figure it could be A24's biggest release to date.
